One of the world’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) companies, Huawei, had recently made a deal with to have a mutual partnership with Italy’s very own FastWeb. The two wireless giants had made a US$1.27 billion agreement on producing the “ultrafast broadband networks and researching advanced technologies.” FastWeb had plan to dedicate 2 billion euros for this project and bring the future of ultra-fast broadband networks in at least 20 percent of Italian homes within the next four years.
What’s the Plan?
FastWeb’s strategy is to build 100 Mbit/s ultrafast broadband networks using the Vectoring technique that employs copper-based technology and the new Fiber to the Curb (FTTC) solution. With the help of Huawei’s Node Level Vectoring (NLV) solution, FastWeb can bring this plan into reality. The use of this plan will allow multiple devices vectoring located at the same site. This ensures high speed bandwidth access while complying with regulations having to do with copper access. As the development of this technology progresses, they will be enabled to use G.fast interfaces, increasing the copper bandwidth ten times its capacity.
This is what Alberto Calcagno, General Manager of Fastweb has to say with this incredible advancement:
Huawei has indeed maintained its lead on the charts of being one of the best wireless solution providers in the world. It is among the few companies that immerses itself with investments and research to improve technological value of modern internet uses. In fact, it is the very first company to ever use the Node Level Vectoring solution and commit sincere development of copper access technologies. The cooperation with Huawei, will bring new technological solutions in order to provide a growing speed on our networks breaking the wall of 100M per second currently achievable in VDSL. This is expected to be a long-term project: by 2014 it will reach 20% of the population with a network that supports up to 100M. In the second phase of our project the NGN will implement new technologies that will extend up to 10 times the bandwidth using the existing infrastructure, going beyond the objectives of the Digital Agenda. It is a commitment that Fastweb undertakes with its clients: to develop their services and their performance to offer the best Internet solutions in Italy, now and in the future. The partnership with Huawei was founded by a philosophy of active collaboration with our suppliers, which are the real partners. The agreement signed with Huawei is the first important MoU in the NGN and it will be followed by other agreements.
Huawei will certainly make in the world as the need for more and more wireless broadband capabilities is gradually increasing. The question now is, can you keep up?
